Naturland & EU Promote Organic Standards for Resilient Food Systems at PH Movement

Naturland e.V., one of the world’s leading international associations for organic agriculture, with crucial support from the European Union (EU), recently underscored the vital role of stringent organic standards in creating a more resilient food system. This message was delivered during the 10th Philippine Sustainability Movement, an event co-organized by Naturland and initiated by Pristine Solutions.

Alexandra Castillo, Philippines’ Coordinator for Promotions and Market Linkages at Naturland e.V., emphasized the far-reaching impact of these choices: “Every time we choose organic, we’re choosing a system that respects people, animals, and the planet. Organic practices help protect the soil and water that sustain us and make sure that everyone can enjoy safe, healthy food now and in the future.”

Europe’s Stringent Standards: A Path to Sustainability

Organic farming naturally promotes animal welfare, biodiversity, and environmental responsibility. Europe, in particular, upholds some of the world’s most stringent standards on organic certification. Through specific regulations and rigorous inspections, the EU ensures that every stage of production meets these criteria. These high standards offer practical pathways to achieving sustainability across the entire food value chain, benefiting everyone from farmers to consumers.

Naturland highlighted that the organic movement presents significant opportunities for businesses, particularly in the hospitality and retail sectors. By offering certified organic products—verified by the credible EU Organic Logo and the Naturland seal—businesses not only appeal to consumers prioritizing quality and safety but also build trust through transparency and responsible environmental stewardship.

Nurturing Every Juan: Growing the Movement

Ongoing efforts to grow the organic movement in the Philippines include the “European Organic: Nurturing Every Juan” campaign, implemented by Naturland with EU support. This campaign seeks to make European organic products an accessible, everyday choice for consumers.

The 10th Philippine Sustainability Movement annually gathers organizations and representatives from the hospitality, culinary, development, business, and public sectors, including Naturland partners PYC Foods and One World Deli. Over the past decade, this movement has successfully increased awareness and driven the adoption of more responsible practices, aiming now to build on this momentum by shaping food systems rooted in transparency, accountability, and shared purpose.
