The award winning Manila-based social enterprise, Rags2Riches Inc has been chosen by AirAsia‘s as the recepient of its first social enterprise grant in the Philippines.
The Social Enterprise Award aims to support business that exists primarily to help the under privileged and that profits gain form it are reinvested into community projects to fulfill their social goals.
Through the award, Rags2Riches will receive US $13,275 to fund the training of 100 new artisans to produce eco-ethical fashion and home accessories, suing up-cycle scrap cloth, organic material and indigenous fabrics. The artisans will participate in skill upgrade and other workshops at the Rags2Riches Academy for 12 months.
In addition, RAgs2Riches products will gain access to ASEAN Market through a new partnership with AirAsia Mergastore. Commencing July 7 exclusively designed Rags2Riches bags, wrist-let and a fordable beach bag will be sold on board flights originating in Philippines and Malaysia.
During the event, representatives from Rags2Riches did a demo on how they make their fashionable accessories and bags. They also brought some of their items for display.
RAgs2Riches Inc . President and founding Partner, Reese Fernandez-Ruiz is present to accept the award together with AirAsia Inc. CEO, Marianne B. Hontiveros and Atty. Katrina Legarda – Appointed Chairperson of AirAsia Foundations’ Coucil of Trustees.
