Unboxing the HUAWEI Watch 3

It took four years until HUAWEI launched the successor to HUAWEI Watch 2 which was launched in 2017. Although there were a lot of watches in between like the HUAWEI Watch GT, GT 2, GT 2e, GT 2 Pro, and the Watch Fit, the HUAWEI Watch 3 is what I am excited about.

The HUAWEI Watch 3 is inside a premium-looking black cube same as the Watch GT 2 Pro. Inside the box are the watch and new charger design. I actually like the previous charger wherein the round base and the type-c cable are separate.

The Huawei Watch 3 has a classic watch design with a rotating crown that’ll be good for scrolling or navigating the watch’s functions. It looks simpler and lighter than the GT 2 Pro but it is heavier when it comes to features and powered by HUAWEI’s Harmony OS which something to look forward to.

Its premium design isn’t all to it, it has new features that I am very excited about – the Skin Temperature Detector and an eSIM support. The eSIM support lets you receive calls and messages even if your phone isn’t connected to the watch. I would love to try it out, but my HUAWEI P30 doesn’t support it yet, newer phones already have eSIM support and local telco networks are already supporting eSIM. It’s like having your mobile number registered to your watch.

The HUAWEI Watch 3 also has all the fitness features of the previous phones as well as all the health sensors (SpO2, Stress, Sleep, Heart). It also detects if you had a fall and will let you make an emergency call.

On paper, battery life only lasts for 3 days on full smart mode or all-day health management, wherein you have all sensors active to monitor you 24/7, but it can last up to 14 days if you are on battery-saving mode. You can still access all the features but only if you want to, unlike having it monitor you all day.

There are a lot of things to be excited about the HUAWEI Watch 3, a lot of new features to play with. Stay tuned for the full review soon. For now, here are the specs:

  • 46.2 mm x 46.2 mm x 12.15 mm
