HUAWEI Watch 3 Review – eSIM, Harmony OS 2.0 and More!

Huawei keeps on coming out with awesome smartwatches and the HUAWEI Watch 3 came with a lot of new features to “watch” out for. Aside from an awesome design it really feels like a different watch.

To start with, the HUWAEI Watch 3 comes with the HarmonyOS 2.0 compared to the HarmonyOS Lite from the HUAWEI Watch GT 2 Pro. Compared to the latter, the HUAWEI Watch 3 has an ultra-curved 3D glass display that’s not only bright and round-edged but also scratch-resistant and fingerprint-proof. It’s comparable to those found on traditional luxury watches.

The watch size is the right size for my wrist and also big enough for my wife’s preference. She likes watches with big faces. Huawei’s Watch 3’s 1.4″ inch AMOLED display is just right when viewing and navigating its function.

Another notable change is the addition of the rotating crown that helps you scroll thru the functions and also allows you to zoom in and out the new grid-style app drawer. It even provides a haptic feedback to add a mechanical feel to it.

Another new innovation to take note of is the addition of an eSIM feature. An eSIM is an integrated SIM chip embedded in the mobile device, in our case, the HUAWEI Watch 3, keeping all the information you need always within your reach. Meaning your watch can have a mobile number even without a SIM card to make or receive calls and messages. I would like to try it however, when I applied for an eSIM at Globe, they don’t have it available for my watch yet.

The HUWEI Watch, just like the previous watches, is a sports and health all-around management. For health, it comes with different sensors to monitor different vital statistics including, oxygen level (SpO2), heart rate, stress level, sleep monitor, and now skin temperature. It’s different from body temperature that we use to check for fever. Skin temperature is used after doing your work out or exercise.

All the data gathered are synched to the HUAWEI Health App for repots. You can also monitor your workouts and calories lost at the Health App when you activate whatever workout you’re doing in the watch.

As you can see, I’ve been working out (I just had to say it), and what I usually do is ride our stationary bike for 15-1hr depending on the mood. The last time I had that exercise I lost 102 calories and a lot of sweat. I want to loose more in the coming days and also get more sleep.

The Watch also has a lot of new available apps ready for download. One of the most popular app currently is the Wish 107.5 FM App. It allows you to listed to the music or your favorite DJs. The music can be streamed directly at your watch and listen to it from its build-in speakers. You can also upload songs to your watch via the HUAWEI Health App and make us of its 6GB storage. Here are some shows to catch up on.

  • The Morning Wish with DJ Ray Holiday from 5AM. to 9AM
  • The Wonderland with DJ Alice from 9AM. to 12NN.
  • The Wish List with DJ Adam from 12NN. to 4PM
  • The Roadshow with DJ Alice from 4PM. to 8PM
  • Wishpers of Love with DJ Faye from 8PM to 12AM
  • Moonlight Wishes with DJ Jenie from 12AM. to 5AM.

Other notable Apps include a ride sharing app – JoyRide, and HUAWEI’s video calling service, HUAWEI MeeTIme.

As far as battery life is concerned. HUAWEI WATCH 3 can achieve 3-day long battery life in smart mode, and 14 days in ultra-long battery mode. It ensures that users can wear it all day, use it continuously, and use it all the time even during sleep. There was a tine when I are tired of smartwatches because I has to charge even every other day, but because of the batter improvements. I was hooked to them again.

In summary, the HUAWEI Watch 3 is the upgrade I was waiting for, I will get it set up for an eSIM as soon as it becomes available for my device.

What I love about it:

  • The rotating crown with a haptic feedback, it makes the watch feel mechanical.
  • New features like he eSIM and skin temperature
  • Streaming music directly from the watch
  • The new ultra-curved 3D glass

What I don’t like about it:

  • It would have been a plus point if we can choose a design or a throw in an additional strap.
  • It would have been nice to throw in a find my watch feature on the HUAWEI app, since I sometimes replace it when I remove it.

The HUAWEI Watch 3 is available for PHP 18,999 at the HUAWEI Online Store and Huawei’s official Shopee and Lazada stores.
