The JAECOO J7 SHS, JAECOO Philippines’ first hybrid SUV, is making waves, and not just for its innovative technology. It’s now boasting a global five-star safety rating from the prestigious European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP). This Euro NCAP rating is the second major recognition for the J7 SHS this year, following its official range verification by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) back in February.
Euro NCAP put the J7 SHS through a rigorous series of tests, evaluating its safety technologies across several key areas: how well it protects adult occupants, how safe it is for child occupants, how it protects vulnerable road users like pedestrians, and the effectiveness of its safety assist systems.
The J7 SHS performed exceptionally well. In the adult occupant protection tests, which assessed safety mechanisms in frontal, lateral, and rear impacts, the SUV scored an impressive 81%. Euro NCAP assessors highlighted the J7 SHS’s stability in the frontal offset test, and noted that it provided good protection for the knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger, regardless of their size or seating position.
The J7 SHS also achieved strong scores of 80% in the child occupant protection, vulnerable road user (Pedestrian) protection, and safety assist systems tests. The assessors were particularly impressed with the SUV’s safety assist system, praising its autonomous emergency braking system for its quick response to other vehicles, the lane support system’s adaptability, and the speed assistance system’s ability to quickly communicate local speed limits to the driver.
So, what’s behind the J7 SHS’s excellent safety performance? It’s packed with advanced road safety technologies designed to keep drivers and passengers safe in all kinds of situations. These include a DMS Driver Monitoring System and a 360° HD Panoramic Camera with Under Chassis View, which allow drivers to assess the vehicle’s safety status and road conditions. It also features Bosch’s IPB intelligent braking system, which kicks in automatically within 0.1 seconds to help drivers react quickly and prevent accidents. And in the event of a collision, the J7 SHS is equipped with six strategically positioned airbags to protect occupants.

Beyond its impressive safety credentials, the J7 SHS is also positioned to be a leader in the Philippine hybrid SUV market. It boasts a smooth turbo-charged powertrain that delivers a seamless driving experience in both hybrid and pure electric modes. This is achieved through a combination of a 201 HP motor, a 5th Generation 1.5 TDGI DHT hybrid engine, and a fast-charging 18.3 kWh lithium-ion battery. This powertrain allows drivers to effortlessly switch between driving modes and tackle various terrains, including sand and mud. The J7 SHS demonstrated its long-range capabilities during the AAP Verification Range Test earlier this year, achieving 1,488.8 kilometers on a full tank and a single charge, exceeding its published extended range. It also offers a pure electric range of up to 106 km.
The JAECOO J7 SHS recently made its local preview at the 2025 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), generating significant interest and early reservations from customers. It will also be showcased at the upcoming OMODA and JAECOO Global Conference in Wuhu, China.
The first batch of J7 SHS units is expected to arrive in the Philippines by the end of May. Interested buyers can pre-order the J7 SHS at OMODA and JAECOO Philippines’ official dealerships in key locations. It will be available in Premium and Comfort variants, both priced under Php 1.7 million.
