The announcement, delivered by Zhen Fang, Vice President of International at Roblox, took place during the gamescom asia x Thailand Game Show in Bangkok. This strategic leadership move underscores the company’s long-term commitment to bolstering its presence within the region, aiming to provide enhanced support for local creators, studios, and the growing community of digitally native users.

Joel Neoh joins the Roblox executive team bringing over 15 years of extensive experience in founding, scaling, and managing technology enterprises across the Asia Pacific region.

His professional history includes notable leadership roles and ventures such as the founding of GroupsMore, which was later acquired by Groupon, and his role in establishing the Southeast Asian fintech giant Fave, which grew to serve over 10 million users before its acquisition by Pine Labs in 2021.

Beyond his operational leadership, Neoh has served as an active investor in more than 50 startups, with a particular focus on the consumer technology sector, and has been instrumental in the launch of various innovative platforms like IM8.

As the primary business lead for the Southeast Asia and Oceania territories, Neoh is tasked with overseeing the company’s regional strategy, which includes bridging global product priorities with specific local market demands. A central objective of his tenure will be the empowerment of the regional developer ecosystem.

By providing local studios with the tools necessary to scale their projects, Neoh aims to help creators find commercial success while simultaneously expanding the brand’s reach. Furthermore, his role involves fostering deeper engagement with parents, regulators, and local communities to ensure that the platform remains a safe, civil, and constructive environment for young people.

Zhen Fang highlighted that the appointment of a senior leader with such deep ties to the regional tech ecosystem is a testament to the importance of the Asia Pacific market in the broader Roblox growth strategy. The company emphasized that the young, tech-savvy demographics in Southeast Asia and Oceania present a significant opportunity for the platform’s long-term expansion.

For the Philippines and its neighboring countries, this signifies a more localized approach to support, as the platform looks to cultivate a region that can serve as a major hub for global creativity.

In response to his appointment, Neoh expressed his enthusiasm for the potential of the regional creator economy, noting that current technological advancements are lowering the barrier for entry, allowing more individuals to transition from passive consumers to active digital creators.

He emphasized that building a safe and optimistic space for the next generation of creators is a top priority that will guide his collaborative efforts with local partners.

As part of this ongoing engagement, Roblox is set to continue its community outreach, including the upcoming Roblox Creator Series SEA, which brings together regional developers to share insights and foster collaborative growth.
