Sony Made a Pair of Headphones to Celebrate 10 Years of the 1000X Series, and They Look the Part

Ten years is a long time to be the benchmark for noise-cancelling headphones. Sony is marking the occasion with something a little more considered than a limited-edition colorway.

1000X THE COLLEXION is Sony’s new premium addition to the 1000X lineup, and it is a deliberate step away from the direction the rest of the series has taken. Where the WH-1000XM6 is all about packing in features, THE COLLEXION is about what the thing feels like in your hands and on your ears. The headband is crafted metal with a matte sandblasted texture and hand-polished gloss accents, each piece individually finished by skilled craftspeople. The faux leather took two years to develop. It comes in White or Black, and both colorways are the kind of understated that costs money to achieve.

Comfort was clearly a priority in the design process. The earcups are generously sized to sit naturally around the ears, the headband is wider and cushioned for even weight distribution, and the leather stretches to adapt to the shape of your head. Sony built this for long listening sessions, and the physical design reflects that.

On the audio side, THE COLLEXION uses a bespoke driver unit with a high-rigidity dome made from unidirectional carbon composite material, which delivers cleaner separation between instruments and vocals, more precise high-frequency detail, and a wider soundstage than the standard 1000X lineup. Sony also brought in Grammy-winning and nominated mastering engineers to help tune the headphones, which is either a meaningful endorsement of the sound quality or extremely good marketing. Possibly both.

It is also the first Sony headphone to feature DSEE Ultimate, an Edge-AI system that upscales compressed digital music files in real time to restore lost detail and dynamic range. So your Spotify streams get a bit more breathing room. The 360 Reality Audio Upmix function now covers three modes covering music, cinema, and gaming, turning standard stereo content into spatial audio.

Noise cancelling carries over from the WH-1000XM6, with the same Multi-Noise Sensor technology using 12 microphones and the Adaptive NC Optimizer. Battery life sits at 24 hours with noise cancelling on, and 32 hours with it off.

Sony also added some thoughtful accessibility touches: a magnetic carry case closure, tactile buttons, clear left and right markings, and accessible QR guides. About 25 percent of the plastic used is from recycled materials, and the packaging is plastic-free.

Separately, Sony is adding a Sandstone colorway to the WH-1000XM6 lineup for those who want the same award-winning performance in a warmer, more neutral finish.

1000X THE COLLEXION in White and Black is available for pre-order at P36,999 from May 20 to June 21 at Sony Centres and authorized dealers nationwide. The WH-1000XM6 in Sandstone drops on June 5, 2026. More details at sony.com.ph.
