There has been a number of smart watches that has been released since I owned one, the first Huawei Watch in 2015. I still use it every one and then.
What you’ll notice about Huawei smart watches is that it looks and feels a like a watch but functions like a smart assistant. It does not look like gadget at all. The launch of the newer models of the Huawei watch (Huawei Watch 2, Huawei Watch GT, and Huawei Watch GT 2 and GT 2e), a lot of new features has been added making more than just a smart watch but also a fitness and health coach.
Forward to 2020, five years since the first Huawei Watch, we now have the Huawei Watch GT 2 and Huawei Watch GT 2e. The Huawei Watch GT 2e is the fitness version of the GT 2 as the and “e” stands for energy, vitality and mentality.
Out of the box, it includes the watch and the charger. I was hoping that it would come with an additional strap but I guess it was already too much to ask for, because the watch only costs Php 6.990 and an extra strap costs around 500 – 1000. You can also cheaper ones from Lazada or Shopee.
It comes with a 1.39 inch AMOLED high-precision touch display with retina grade 454 x 454 resolution versus the GT 2 with an OLED. The display is wrapped in a durable stainless steel frame giving it a premium look and made fashionable with two type of straps. The fluoroelastomer strap which is sweat resistant and guarantees softness and strength (Graphite Black and Icy White) or the TPU strap (Lava Red, Mint Green) that remains its comfortable feel and flexibility while remaining strong in and out of the water.
The Huawei GT 2e is to be paired with the Huawei Health app for your health monitoring, fitness tracking and customization. Just like all smartwatches it has a customizable display which can be downloaded directly from the app.
GT 2e is sweat proof and water resistant .It can be submerged in water if you want to swim in open water or in a pool. I would have tested it at the beach or in the pool but ECQ is still implemented. So I just opted to wash may hands with it.
The Huawei GT 2e’s main mission is to guide and users in keeping them in shape thru monitoring our fitness activities and giving us visual reports and statistics so that we know where we’re at.
It has 15 Professional Workout modes both indoor and outdoors supported by GPS and GLONASS positioning systems to meticulously track you during outdoor workouts.
Aside from that it also comes with 85 custom workout modes which includes rock climbing, parkour, street dancing, or skateboard. Powering all of these is the Kirin A1 processor and 16MB of RAM (32MB on the GT 2). It also comes with 4GB of storage which you can use store music and play it directly from the GT 23 paired with your Freebuds or I’m assuming any bluetooth earphones. You can also use the GT 2e as a shutter remote for your phone camera but an update is yet to be available. I already received two updates since I had it but still didn’t receive the shutter remote feature.
As a health companion it comes with a variety of awesome features including:
- SpO2 Monitoring which measures the level of oxygen in the blood.
- Stress Monitoring, which I used more that I thought I would and was aided with the app’s breathing training.
- TruSleep (sleep monitoring) and Heart Rate monitoring
With all of these features, the Huawei Watch GT 2e promises to stay on for 2 weeks. It comes with a 455 mAh battery and aided with Smart Power Saving 2.0, which can intelligently detect the wearing situation and user’s scenarios to allocate battery power reasonably. It charges within 2 hours and does give 2 weeks play time, I guess because I didn’t have much activities (LOL) to use up the battery.
As for my verdict, the Huawei GT 2e has my seal of approval because it’s what smartwatches are supposed to be smart and fashionable. It bridges the gap between sports bands and smart watches at a very reasonable price making it the best option if you’re caught between the two.
You can get the Huawei Watch GT 2e at Lazada or Shopee for Php6,900. Check out Huawei’s Facebook page and website for promos and other announcements.
