Igloo x Angkas Partnership: ₱650K Accident Insurance for Riders

In a move that’s basically a “software update” for road safety, regional insurtech Igloo has partnered with Angkas to bring a much-needed safety net to the country’s biggest motorcycle ride-hailing platform. With over 20,000 riders and 11 million downloads, Angkas is a massive part of the Filipino commute, but for a long time, the riders themselves have been the most vulnerable part of the gig economy.

This partnership is a big deal because it closes a massive “protection gap.” The ride-hailing sector in the Philippines is zooming toward a $1 billion revenue mark by 2030, yet many riders still navigate the streets without any insurance. Now, Angkas riders are automatically enrolled in Personal Accident (PA) plans, ensuring they and their passengers are covered every time they tap “Book.”

For just a minimum premium of 52 cents (around ₱30) per ride, the coverage is surprisingly hefty. We’re talking about ₱650,000 in personal accident benefits and ₱200,000 in medical coverage. Oh, and they even threw in a free private ambulance service, because when things go south on the road, every second (and every peso) counts.

This isn’t just a corporate handshake; it’s a response to the Insurance Commission (IC) pushing for mandatory coverage for motorcycle taxis. By embedding insurance directly into the app, Igloo is making safety as easy as ordering a ride. It’s a win for the riders, a win for the passengers, and a major level-up for the local “gig” ecosystem.
