BYD, the world’s leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, is making waves in the Philippines. Partnering with ACMobility, the official distributor of BYD passenger vehicles in the country, BYD has achieved a remarkable 82% share of the Philippine NEV market in 2024.
This translates to a staggering 4,780 BYD passenger vehicles sold, propelling BYD to the 11th best-selling automotive brand in the Philippines. This is a significant feat, surpassing several established players and other Chinese brands.
The secret to BYD’s success? A lineup of innovative and stylish electric vehicles that cater to a variety of needs. The BYD Sealion 6 DM-i, a plug-in hybrid, emerged as the brand’s top seller, moving 2,669 units in 2024. It even dominated the combined NEV and HEV segments from July to December, capturing a 19% market share.
But BYD’s dominance extends beyond a single model. The BYD Atto 3, a subcompact crossover, secured a comfortable 35% share of the BEV segment, while the BYD Seagull, a stylish hatchback introduced in September 2024, grabbed a noteworthy 38% share of the BEV segment in the last quarter of the year.
This surge in electric vehicle adoption reflects a growing environmental consciousness among Filipino consumers. BYD, along with ACMobility, is at the forefront of this movement, offering Filipinos a chance to embrace a greener future with reliable and exciting electric vehicles.
“We are committed to providing more Filipinos with BYD’s global models that represent greener and smarter mobility solutions,” says Aiffy Liu, Country Head of BYD Philippines. “We are focused on sustaining this momentum by delivering innovative and affordable models for our Filipino customers.”
To further solidify its presence in the Philippines, BYD is rapidly expanding its dealership network. From just two dealerships at the beginning of 2024, BYD now boasts 25 operational dealerships nationwide. Additionally, 52 new dealer locations have been approved, ensuring wider availability of BYD vehicles and services across the country.
BYD’s commitment extends beyond dealerships. The brand’s ongoing BYD Tech Tour brings its cutting-edge technology directly to local communities, while ACMobility is actively expanding its network of EV charging stations nationwide. These initiatives create a comprehensive ecosystem that supports and encourages the transition towards electric mobility in the Philippines.
With exciting new models slated for launch in 2025, coupled with its expanding network and commitment to sustainability, BYD is poised to remain the Philippines’ leading electric vehicle brand.
