Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod’s Art Cove tackles the important topic of mental health with its latest exhibit, “Tales of the Psyche: Navigating Our Mental Odyssey.” This timely showcase, featuring the works of local artist Sheila Marie Basio, marks the eighth installation at the hotel’s dedicated art space.
As summer brings less structured routines for students, the need for engaging activities is crucial. Licensed psychologist Heather Lyons, Ph.D., warns that prolonged boredom can lead to stress and even mental health issues. “Tales of the Psyche” serves as a platform for open dialogue and understanding towards mental well-being.
Basio, a retired teacher, meditator, yogini, and mindfulness advocate, draws inspiration from her personal battles with mental illness. This, her third solo exhibition, features works that portray self-empowerment, resilience, and the will to overcome challenges. “Art has always been my way to express myself,” Basio says. “Through these pieces, I capture the complexities, struggles, and triumphs associated with mental health. Each artwork tells a story, of despair, hope, and ultimately, resilience.”
The exhibit aims to raise awareness and spark conversations around mental health, encouraging empathy and offering solace to those struggling silently. “We’re honored to host such a profound and timely exhibit,” says Archie Javellana, Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod’s Rooms Division Manager. “Sheila’s art encourages us to appreciate the beauty and complexity of the human experience, especially when it comes to mental well-being.”
“Tales of the Psyche” officially opened on June 5th with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Basio herself. Notable guests included Art Association of Bacolod-Negros Treasurer Patty Jane Ku Ong, City Councilor of Victorias Hon. Joji Larraga, and Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod’s Rooms Division Manager, Mr. Archie Javellana. The event was also graced by the presence of Mr. Charlie Co, a renowned Filipino contemporary visual artist known for his socio-realist works.
The exhibit runs until September 7, 2024. For inquiries and artwork purchases, visitors can visit the hotel’s front desk or call +63 34 706 888.
