Initial Impressions: HUAWEI MatePad 11″ Papermatte Edition

HUAWEI has done it again with the release of the latest addition to the MatePad family, the HUAWEI MatePad 11″ PaperMatte Edition. It’s the industry’s first-ever PaperMatte Display with Enhanced Eye Protection.

Out of the box, you’ll find the USB Type C cable (what took you so long Tim Cook?). A charger and a cloth similar to what Apple sells for their devices, but this one is already included in the package. You also get a bundle of freebies worth PHP 21,895 when you purchase the HUAWEI MatePad 11″ PaperMatte Edition. Which includes a Detachable Magnetic Keyboard, HUAWEI M-Pencil 2, and HUAWEI Bluetooth mouse.

It has a total of four speakers, two on both sides, and two microphones at the top. The selfie 8MP camera is placed in the centre compared to the MatePad Pro 10.8, the selfie camera is in the upper left corner (in landscape). The 13MP camera features a starlight sand rear cover and a cosmic star ring camera design.

I love that the Magic Keyboard is now detachable; it allows me to separate the keyboard from the display in case I need space and remove the keyboard if I don’t need it, like when I’m reading an ebook or playing a game. That was my concern with my current MatePad; I had to remove the magic keyboard completely or fold it backward. It was both a hassle and uncomfortable. I’d also like to add that it is more secure compared to the previous magic keyboard.

Now let’s head on to my favourite feature of the HUAWEI MatePad 11″ PaperMatte Edition, the display. It has an 11-inch 2.5k resolution display with a 120hz refresh rate which features a paper-like technology for eye comfort. The first tablet to obtain low visual fatigue and reflection-free certification. Here’s a demo of how it performs compared to the previous MatePad.

Both devices are directly under the ring light but the PaperMatte Edition didn’t produce any reflection from the light above. Amazing isn’t it? I love the display already. I also find it comfortable reading my books with the HUAWEI MatePad 11″ PaperMatte Edition.

The display currently has 4 certifications:

  • SGS Low Visual Fatigue Premium Performance Certification
  • TÜV Rheinland Reflection-Free Certification
  • TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light
  • TUV Flicker-free certification

For productivity, the tablet comes with a PC-level WPS Office that has complete functions and a user-friendly layout.

So far, I am really impressed with the PaperMatte Display technology. I will be diving in to more details in my review so stay tuned. Here’s the overview of the specs:
