The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) is sending a powerful message of support to Filipino athletes competing in the upcoming Olympic Games Paris 2024. Just a week before the Olympians take center stage, the league organized a special tribute during their games on Thursday.
Cignal HD Spikers and Choco Mucho Flying Titans players proudly donned warm-up shirts emblazoned with the names of all 22 Filipino athletes heading to Paris. This heartwarming gesture resonated with PVL President Richard Palou, who emphasized the league’s unwavering support.
“We’re all behind our athletes!” Palou declared. “Their talent and dedication inspire us, and we hope this small token motivates them to achieve their best in the Olympics. Go for gold, Team Philippines, and make our country proud!”
PVL Commissioner Sherwin Malonzo echoed this sentiment, highlighting the initiative’s broader purpose. “This is just one way we celebrate the incredible dedication and hard work of Filipino athletes across all sports,” Malonzo explained. “We want our PVL fans and the entire volleyball community to rally behind our Olympians in the lead-up to the games.”
The 22-strong Philippine contingent boasts a diverse range of talent. Pole vaulter EJ Obiena, gymnast Caloy Yulo, and boxers Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam, and Eumir Marcial lead the pack. Other notable athletes include gymnasts Aleah Finnegan, Emma Malabuyo, and Levi Ruivivar; weightlifters Elreen Ando, Vanessa Sarno, and John Ceniza; hurdlers John Tolentino and Lauren Hoffman; golfers Bianca Pagdanganan and Dottie Ardina; judoka Kiyomi Watanabe; rower Joanie Delgaco; and swimmers Jarod Hatch and Kayla Sanchez. Fencer Sam Catantan, boxers Aira Villegas and Hergie Bacyadan complete the line-up.
