Just over a month ago a came across a BBC documentary titled “Why Beauty Matters“. It’s a documentary about the beauty of art and why it matters. In the early years, the world revolves around art – sculptures, paintings, music, and even structures or buildings. Back then it was beauty first before function.
I was moved by the documentary and I wanted to bring beauty back so I joined my PR friend Nana in pursuant of beauty. I wanted to relive my dream to host my own exhibit and eventually become a National Artist for Visual Comedy. She invited me to try out a new art place in Kapitolyo, Pasig – Cevio Art Haus.
Located at 60 San Isidro St. Barrio Kapitolyo, Cevio Art Haus is another one of those nice looking homes turned establishments. Cevio Art Haus is a two-storey house that from the looks of it, it maybe from the early late 60s to early 70s, now a home to contemporary art, showcasing works of Filipino painters from across the islands. At night, it has a nice view of Bonifacio Global City by the way.
Upon entering, there are pieces of art on display( of course… it’s an art gallery). At the backyard, you’ll see wall paintings or graffiti from artists that visited during gatherings. Overall, the surroundings gave visitors an artsy feeling that helps bring out their creative side. It’s like something inside me is shouting “Let’s do this!”
For P1000 you’ll be provided with art materials plus snacks, a sip drink and an Art Instructor that will make life easier for you. This only happens on Cevios’ Paint n’ Sip Nights, which is every Friday nights at 7:30PM. Because there are limited seats, you can’t jut walk in, you need to have reservations.
There will be a quick introduction before you start, reminding us to wear our aprons, and not to accidentally drink the water for your brushes. The painting that we are to make is the one left. It looks complicated especially when you’re a first timer, but the instructions are easy to follow and the art instructor and assistants are very patient with everyone.
We were like grade one students being taught how to mix colors and use correct brush strokes, and just like grade 1 students, we were so happy doing it. Here’s a peek at my progress.
The mixture of colors are far from what it was supposed to, but I’m happy with it because a true artist stands out(an excuse for not listening and following instructions). Check out another participant’s work and tell me I did better, TELL ME!!!
Everyone was having fun, laughing at each other’s work, you can also see the smile on their faces as they admire their own work. Some are puzzled just like me, wondering what they did wrong. It was one hell of a night, I’m glad I gave in to my friend’s invitation.
Just when I thought the fun was over, along came another surprise – A Wedding Proposal!
The guy sure knows how to surprise his ex-girlfriend-now-fiancée. Cevio Art Haus is open for things like this(no bachelor party, nude painting session, etc), you can book them for a birthday party, a family gathering, or just hanging out with friends. Bring home your finished work and create your own art gallery at home. It is something to be proud of.
This is something that I will try to do again. Probably once or twice a year will do, otherwise I wouldn’t have any space to hang it. Check out photos from the previous Paint n’ Sip Nights on Facebook For inquiries and reservation please call 02-6564931 or 09173104663/09258454546. Limited seats available so hurry and reserve!
