JAECOO J7 SHS: Ushering in a New Era of Hybrid Mobility in the Philippines

The automotive scene in the Philippines is about to get a serious upgrade, and JAECOO is leading the charge. This global automaker is introducing its groundbreaking Super Hybrid System (SHS) technology, promising a new era of sustainable and high-tech driving. This isn’t just any hybrid system; it’s designed to deliver what JAECOO claims is the smoothest turbo-charged powertrain in the SUV market.

This innovative SHS technology is the heart of JAECOO’s first hybrid SUV, the J7 SHS, which we’ll soon be seeing on Philippine roads. What makes this SUV stand out? It’s all about going the distance, both in hybrid and pure electric modes. In fact, during a recent Automobile Association Philippines Verification Range Test, the J7 SHS proved its mettle, clocking in at an impressive 1,488.8 kilometers on a full tank and a single charge. That’s way beyond its published extended range of over 1,200 km! And for those shorter trips, it can even manage up to 106 km on pure electric power.

The J7 SHS packs a punch with a 201 HP motor and JAECOO’s 5th Generation 1.5 TDGI DHT hybrid engine. This dynamic duo delivers a combined power of 255 kW and a peak torque of 525 Nm – a performance that JAECOO says is comparable to a 3.0T engine. What’s really clever is that the powertrain can seamlessly switch between driving modes: Full Electric, Series Hybrid, Parallel Hybrid, and Energy Recovery (regen). Add to that its ability to handle tough terrains like sand and mud, and you’ve got an SUV that’s ready for almost anything.

Efficiency is also a key focus. The 5th Generation 1.5 TDGI DHT hybrid engine incorporates several advanced technologies, including Deep Miller cycle, Intelligent High Efficiency Combustion (i-HEC), regenerative braking, and optimized power distribution. The result? JAECOO is reporting a fuel consumption of just 4.1 liters per 100 km. The engine’s DHT component also plays a crucial role, automatically adapting the car’s driving mode to the driving conditions and vehicle status, and converting kinetic energy into electric energy for even greater efficiency.

Powering all this is an 18.3 kWh lithium-ion battery that charges quickly, going from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes. JAECOO has also prioritized battery durability, with an all-around protection system that can withstand extreme temperatures, from -35°C to 60°C.

But the J7 SHS isn’t just about what’s under the hood. Its design blends style and functionality, giving drivers complete control on the road. This midsize SUV, with its dimensions of 4500 mm x 1865 mm x 1670 mm and a 2672 mm-wide wheelbase, features JAECOO’s distinctive hexagonal Waterfall Grille, glossy black side mirrors, and a striking checkered LED Full-Width Taillight. Inside, the sleek, industrial-inspired interior boasts a 10.25” instrument cluster and a large 14.8” infotainment system. And for added convenience, users can control many of the car’s functions with an intelligent voice system activated by saying “Hello, JAECOO!”

Safety is also paramount. The J7 SHS is built to withstand emergencies, with a body strength of 23,000N/deg and a road crush resistance score of 5.11, which JAECOO says surpasses other SUVs in its class. To help drivers react quickly, it features Bosch’s IPB intelligent braking system, which engages in just 0.1 seconds. The J7 SHS also includes a DMS Driver Monitoring System and a 360° HD Panoramic Camera with Under Chassis View, providing drivers with a comprehensive view of the vehicle’s safety status and road conditions.

“We are excited to build off the momentum from our brand launch with the introduction of the Super Hybrid System technology in the JAECOO J7 SHS,” OMODA and JAECOO Philippines said in a statement. “This technology represents the brand’s latest engineering DNA and is set to transform the driving experience. We believe Filipinos will embrace the JAECOO J7 SHS when it arrives.”

The first J7 SHS units are expected to arrive in the Philippines by May 2025, with both Premium and Comfort variants priced under Php 1.7 million. Pre-orders are now being accepted at OMODA and JAECOO Philippines dealerships in key locations across the country.
