Rémy Cointreau Philippines recently concluded its annual La Maison Cointreau Philippines Bartending Competition last October 2nd at Run Rabbit Run in Makati City. Five finalists from different local bars in Manila showcased their mixing talents to come up with the best concoction using Cointreau French Orange Liqueur and the this year’s theme ingredient: TEA!
Competing this year were Ian James Osilo of Mandalay, Jacques Buenviaje of The Peak Grand Hyatt, Jay Natividad of The Spirits Library, Hi Agunat of Versus Barcade and Abegail Quilan-lan of Proof Manila.
Each aspiring bartender were given 10 minutes (if I remember it correctly) to prepare and mix their drinks in front of the judges which were by La Maison Cointreau Philippines 2018 Champion Loreen Apilado Hernandez, Two Shots a Pint author Gail Sotelo, and Rémy Cointreau’s National Portfolio Ambassador Scott Fitzgerald.
Contestants were also sharing their stories and insights on how they came up with their chosen concoction.
It was a delightful experience seeing bartenders prepare and do their thing in front of a panel of esteemed judges. Some were actually trembling, which I would have been too or not if I took in shots of my own concoction before I compete.
The La Maison Cointreau Philippines Bartending Competition 2018 winner was Abegail Quilan-lan of Proof Mannila. She will be representing the Philippines at the La Maison Cointreau Asia Finals in Bangkok, Thailand on November 10 to 14.
Congratulations Abigail Quilan-lan and Rémy Cointreau Philippines!
