The Career Roadmap: Your Personal Guide to Corporate Career Success

I have been working for over 15 years and have been to three different industries but it was the BPO where I stayed the most. Working for 15 years, I realized that there is no elevator to success, there is not even a stair or a ladder to use to reach the top. It was a hike all along and during the hike there are many choices to make a long the way, do you follow a trail, will you be more adventurous and choose a more challenging mountain to climb, will you go alone or bring someone with you? There are a lot of decisions to make and each of them will have a huge impact in your career.

This is me taking the stairs 😊

I’ve hiked different mountains and took different challenges but I realized that what I needed was a mentor, a guide. I got introduced to marketing after working for 9 years and got very interested and challenged to take on a new path, a new mountain to climb. I have literally not enough exposure and experience to get a decent position and starting over means starting from the bottom and receive much less that what I was currently earning.

This is me gorgeously hiking. 😊

I was attending workshops, seminars, and short courses while working to equip myself and at least have knowledge of what I was getting into. I started as a content specialist, then a digital marketing manager, then a marketing manager. I wanted more experience, I wanted to be a director someday. The path I took wasn’t easy, I still am learning and I need mentorship. I believe that I am still at the foot of the mountain looking for a guide to walk me thru my hike.

What I realized during my hike was no matter what classes you took, or workshops you attended,  you need to have a road map and you need to have a guide. It was then I was given a book by a friend The Career Roadmap: Your Personal Guide to Corporate Career Success I realized that I am not alone, someone took the same path, dreamt a new dream, took a new challenge and created a guide for those who are starting a hike or are lost along the way.  The book feels she was talking to me, sharing her experiences, citing examples, and have a bit of activity to keep you energized.

The book was written by Malou T. Del Castillo who initially wanted to be a doctor, however she ended up becoming a marketing professional, then a psychologist, and a lastly a career coach. She wrote the book for those who are seeking advice or a guide in building their career.

“I am not a super good writer but I like storytelling. It made the writing easier for me because I realized that rather than straight out telling people what they need to do to find their ideal job, I would tell a story that somehow is an analogy of that. That’s something I learned to do when I would do workshops and when I do cou nseling.”
