Cherie Gil has already proven herself as an actress, and she still never fails to surprise us with her phenomenal acting. There’s always something new discover about her, it’s like watching her act for the first time again. Last Thursday, March 13, we were able to witness her acting expertise in “Full Gallop” as fashion icon Diana Vreeland.
A play written by Mary Louise Wilson and Mark Hampton. FULL GALLOP focuses on the life of Diana Vreeland, who stood at the center of American style for five decades. As editor of Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue magazines, and a member of the International Cafe Society, Diana chronicled the extraordinary people and events of her time. FULL GALLOP is a portrait of this remarkable woman at a turning point in her life.
It is a one woman show directed by Bart Guingona and produced by Cherie Gil herself. FULL GALLOP is also backed up by very talented people for the creative team – Rajo Laurel for costume design, Joey Mendoza for Set Design, John Batalla for lighting design, and Ruben Nazareth for Hair and Make-up.
I love what they did with the set, it has a personality of it’s own. The set was the supporting character in the stage it speaks as loud as the main character herself.
You will be amazed with how Cherie portrayed the role, she has a world of her own. She took us back to the evening of 1971 at Diana Vreeland’s apartment where she was organizing a party for her friends in the high society hoping that she get to convince some of them into producing her own magazine. Watching her delivering 45 pages worth of fast-paced dialogue is just awesome, you get to see her dance too.
There is a special participation of Giselle Tongi which added laughter in the theater. They also revealed that Rajo Laurel has prepared different costumes for every shows.
It’s a must see theater production for this year so don’t miss it! The show will only be limited because of the availability of the venue. After the March 14 gala night, regular shows will be on March 15 and 21 at 8:00PM and on March 16 and 23, 2014 at 4:00PM at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Ayala Avenue corner Sen.
