Commonly known as the “Concert King”, Martin Nievera, a very talented singer, songwriter, and one of the main host of ABS-CBN’s top rating musical variety show ASAP 18, is now celebrating his 30 years in the entertainment industry. Yes, it’s been 30 years since his illustrious career started.
Nowadays it’s value for money, your concert has to have guests or a tandem for it to sell. The biggest compliment a singer will ever receive, for being in the industry for 30 years is trusting him to do a solo concert. Just him and the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra.
If you ask what it is there to expect on SEPTEMBER 13 “I want to do what I used to do then, so that we, the people watching, and we, the people in my industry will see, this is the way we used to do it back then. This is why I was blessed with the title – Concert King.” Nothing fancy, just him singing the songs.
During the interview I admired him more as a person than of a singer. He has a great voice but I believe it’s he himself as a person, more than his talent, that brought him where he is now. He doesn’t believe in titles, for him being a concert king has a very different definition “I have to do a performance that’s fit for a king. Not a king performing, kings don’t perform. Every concert, big or small has to be fit for a king.“
Like everyone else he has his own rituals before performing. One is having a long shower before the show staring at his concert’s sequence guide posted on the bathroom wall and envisioning himself performing in the concert. Another is, as advised by Lea Salonga, is to be quiet the day before and the day of the concert.
