Even in the digital age, fairy tales are a still a hit with kids especially with little girls. Their dream of becoming princesses starts right after hearing their first fairytale story. This year Repertory Philippines brings to life the fairest of them all, Snow White.
After going mad with Alice in Wonderland in 2013 and learning to tell the truth with Pinocchio in 2014, Repertory Philippines’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs are set to entertain and teach kids valuable life lessons in a fun and engaging way. During the press preview Snow White was played by Christine Flores, while the Queen was portrayed by Bituin Escalante who did an awesome job as the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland, and Jos Jalbuena as the Prince. Funny how the prince and the queen does not have a name, although Disney named the queen Queen Grimhilde in their 1937 animated film, the original book version does not have a name.
As usual Bituin gave an awesome performance as an evil queen. She’s mean, scary, and the audience still finds her amusing. She’s just great. Christine also was an awesome performance, her singing, dancing, and acting is worthy of praises. Her portrayal of a soft-spoken, humble, gentle, innocent, and caring princess is what kids have imagined Snow White would be.
The audience should also prepare to laugh at the wacky performances of the seven dwarves as they tickle your funny bones and teach you how to yodel. Each with a different personality, but they’re all loveable.
The stage play will also feature Alana Vicente, Becca Coates, and Dani Prieto (understudy) as Snow White; Ring Antonio, and Christine Flores (understudy) as the queen; and Hans Eckstein, and Jef Flores as the Prince/Woodsman.
Directed by Joy Virata, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will take us on a trip-down-memory-lane and remind us why Snow White deserves a spot in our list of “Most Loved Fairy Tale Princesses.”
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will be staged from August 15 to December 10, 2015 at the Onstage Theater in Greenbelt 1, Makati City. Ticket prices ranges from P400 to P600.
See You at the Theater!
