A story that we, Filipino, would love to see because we love drama. We love drama so much that there’s a total of eight telenovala s that are shown in one channel in a day. That’s approximately 5 hours of drama.
Wouldn’t it be nice to one in theater? Repertory Philippine’s 2nd theatrical play for the year 2014, after the very successful Wait until Dark, August: Osage County. is It’s like our very own telenovela, a soap opera from hell ( as they would describe it). A story of a family whose members has their own emotional issues to deal with and at the same time dealing with issues with one another.
Most of the characters dread the notion of living alone yet they violently resist intimacy, and most seem doomed to a sad, solitary existence. The final lesson is harsh but simple: Be a good person or you’ll taste nothing but your own poison.
There’s going to be a deep and heavy emotional battle that will either heal them or destroy their family.
The powerhouse cast includes award winning theater actors and a Cannes best actress. In no partticular order – Baby Barredo, Pinky Amador, Tami Monsod, Liesl Batucan, Leo Rialp, Kenneth Moraleda, Sheila Franceisco, The Gloria, Richard Cunanan, Hans Eckstein, Noel RAyos, Angeli Bayani, Naths Everett and Arnel Carrion.
August: Osage County was originally produced in 2007 by the Steppenwolf Theatre Company at the Downstairs Theatre in Chicago. It won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama written by Tracy Letts. The movie version starring Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts opened late 2013.
